Loons & Wolves: Experience the Wonder

Daily Programs on Loons and Wolves

Loons –Symbol of the North

One of the most beloved creatures on our northern lakes, the common loon family captivates our hearts as we watch them develop from chick to adult. Celebrating forty years, Loon Watch has been researching loons and the lakes they live on.Learn about the common loon—identification, calls, behavior, habitat, threats, and what you can do to protect loons. The LoonWatch staff will discuss their common loon citizen science monitoring programs, and how you can participate. They will also provide an update about loon research in the Midwest. Great program for adults and kids alike—with time for your questions.

Wolf Ecology, & Management

Wolf experts will provide a better understanding of the gray wolves of Wisconsin by covering the following topics: a brief history of the wolf in Wisconsin, social structures and pack dynamics, reproduction, dietary habits, and current status and management of the wolf in the state. This program provides a good overview of the gray wolf’s biology and management in the state.

Myths about the Wolves of Wisconsin

Wolf educators will talk about the five common misconceptions about the gray wolf in the Wisconsin: there is a wolf behind every tree, they are decimating the white-tailed deer herds, they are a serious safety threat to people, they are a serious threat to domestic animals, and they were reintroduced into Wisconsin and the UP. This program addresses the history behind these misconceptions and sheds light on the truth hidden in the myth.
